Pupil Voice

The children’s views are important for reasons of school improvement and safeguarding. Pupil voice takes multiple forms at Robert Miles Junior School.

Pupil Survey

A Pupil Survey is run by the Headteacher annually. All children are encouraged to complete the survey which covers areas including how happy and safe children feel at school, what they would like to improve, how they are supported and if they know how they can improve. Results are published in the weekly newsletter to parents.

Prefects

Six Prefects are appointed each year from Year 6. Each prefect has a specific area of responsibility to ensure greater impact – these areas are: Arts, Community, Environment, Inclusion, Learning and Sport. Job Descriptions are shared with the children. They can then apply, applications are shortlisted with interviews conducted by the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher. Prefects meet with the Headteacher fortnightly.

School Council

Each class collects two school councillors who sit on the School Council along with the Prefects. School Council meetings are chaired by the Headteacher and provide a forum for children to share views on the school and discuss areas they would like to develop. Following meetings, the children then feedback to their class and also, where appropriate, in assemblies.

Over the past few months, the prefects have been working hard to complete the tasks they set themselves – this week, two of them came to fruition.

Firstly, Nathan (Environment Prefect), wrote to the local council to obtain a grant for new recycling bins in all the offices and classrooms. Having secured the money, the school has now acquired brand new ‘recycled’ recycling bins across the school. At assembly this morning Nathan talked through what should and should not go in the bin. Nathan is also working on sourcing a tree for the Market Square to replace the one that came down last year. Well done Nathan!

Working with the other prefects, Thomas (Sports Prefect) created a survey to ask all the children what equipment they would like in the playground. Having collected their thoughts, we then purchased the equipment and shared it with the children this morning. Hopefully lots more fun to be had at playtime – well done to all the prefects and Sports Ambassadors for making it happen!
